There are a number of people teaching languages in Second Life. Over the next few months, I plan on observing, and possibly taking, some language lessons in Second Life. When I do, I will most certainly share any interesting uses, ideas, and advantages that Second Life has for language students.

Today was not about learning languages, though. It was about learning how to do stuff in Second Life.

I started by trying to learn as much as I could before actually getting in to Second Life—big mistake. I figured video tutorials would be the best place to start and quickly found several sites devoted to Second Life tutorials. The problem is that Second Life is huge and very complex. These videos covered all sorts of obscure details that, as evidenced by the comments, are useful, but they were way too much detail for a beginner like me.

By the time I gave up on the videos, I was feeling very intimidated, but with an idea of just how much you can do on Second Life. The next step will be to simplify things a little and get going.
